Volunteer tutors are an essential part of the success of the Family Literacy Program.
Tutors work with adults who may be new to this country and our language.
Volunteer tutors are provided with ongoing training. This includes both an orientation
before volunteering in the program and training and planning before each class. Tutors
work one-to-one with a student or with a small group of adults to build reading, writing and conversational skills.
Tutors may volunteer in as many classes as they wish. The time commitment is
about 2 hours once or twice a week depending on the class time where you
volunteer.
Help make a difference in someone's life. No prior experience or
training is required and you do not need to speak a foreign language.
Please contact the literacy office at 828-3750 ext. 15 for further information.
